Tyreik Sammy's early goal secured a 1-0 victory for Bray Wanderers against Kerry FC on Friday night. The win at Mounthawk Park lifts Bray to third in the First Division, now on 47 points from 31 games.
Sammy struck in the seventh minute, finishing off a move created by Richard Ferizaj. The Seagulls had threatened even earlier, with Ferizaj forcing a save from Kerry goalkeeper Matt Connor inside the opening 20 seconds. The visitors had further chances to extend their lead through Kieran Mustali and Ferizaj again, but the single goal proved enough.
Kerry, managed by Colin Healy, pushed for an equaliser but could not find a way past a Bray defence marshalled by Max Hogan. The home side's best efforts came through Ryan Kelliher and Sean McGrath, but the Bray backline held firm to keep a clean sheet. The attendance in Tralee was 910.
League context
The three points are vital for Bray's promotion push, moving them 21 points behind leaders Cork City. Their recent form has been mixed, with one win, two draws and two losses in their last five outings. They have scored 59 goals this season, the second-highest tally in the division, with top scorer Mark Murphy contributing eight of those. Their next fixture is a home match against Wexford FC on Friday, October 25th.
Elsewhere in the First Division on Friday, UCD and Athlone Town played out a 2-2 draw, while Finn Harps defeated Wexford 3-1. Those results keep the race for the play-off spots tightly contested. The full standings show the Seagulls firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish.
